Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Letlhakeng District Council chairperson, Mr Anderson Mathibe has expressed disappointment over the declining results of both primary and junior secondary schools in the district.<\/b><\/p>\n

Addressing a full council meeting on Monday, Councilor Mathibe said the Junior Certificate results showed a decline in performance when compared to the 2021 results.<\/p>\n

He said junior secondary schools being Mphuthe, Lempu and Mahupu achieved neither a merit nor an A pass.<\/p>\n

Councillor Mathibe said that must be a wakeup call to all as the children\u2019s education could never be the responsibility of the school management alone.<\/p>\n

He said for the district to contribute productively to a knowledge based economy, primary and junior secondary schools results must show commitment towards set targets.<\/p>\n

Cllr Mathibe emphasised the importance of jointly moulding children from home up to the classroom level to prepare them adequately for their examinations.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlong the same vein, I wish you to implore all teachers and the school management to also show the same commitment towards what they have been mandated to do with regard to imparting knowledge to our children,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said the pass rate for the Primary School Leaving Examinations results was 53.9 per cent in 2021 and 52.5 per cent in 2022 for the Letlhakeng district.<\/p>\n

This, he added showed a slight decline by 1.4 per cent in 2022, further noting that it was worrisome.<\/p>\n

The chairperson further said 15 schools in 2022 achieved performance above 50 per cent when compared to 10 schools in 2021 while 10 schools in 2022 achieved a performance below 50 per cent compared to 14 schools in 2021.<\/p>\n
