Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Botswana Public Service Employee Union (BOPEU) has unveiled a new group funeral scheme policy in partnership with Metropolitan Botswana.<\/b><\/p>\n

Launching the new scheme, BOPEU president, Ms Masego Mogwera said the scheme was designed to provide financial assistance to members and their families in the event of death.<\/p>\n

The scheme provides a lump sum payment to help cover the costs of a funeral, she said, adding that the new scheme was an increase from P30 000 to P60 000.<\/p>\n

She also said the scheme was a result of BOPEU\u2019s leadership commitment to improving the lives of members and their families.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe that no one should have to suffer financial hardship in the event of a death in the family,\u201d she said, expressing hope that members and their families would use the scheme.<\/p>\n

Ms Mogwera said the scheme was anchored on the relationship between BOPEU, Babereki Insurance Brokers (BIB) and Metropolitan.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am confident that this collaboration will lead to great success for all parties involved and for the benefit of all,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Ms Mogwera also said the scheme was a testament to the collective leadership and management of Metropolitan, as it was designed to meet the needs and aspirations of BOPEU members.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis scheme will provide access to funeral services at an affordable cost,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She noted that the COVID-19 pandemic had financial and emotional strains for many members and their families.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the most difficult periods has been dealing with the funeral costs of loved ones who have passed away,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She said having a group funeral scheme would help ease the burden, as it would provide financial protection for many members, adding that funerals were expensive.<\/p>\n

\u201cI urge all of you to consider getting this scheme,\u201d said Ms Mogwera.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the same event, BIB principal officer, Mr Era Maseko said BOPEU was concerned about the welfare of its members due to the changing dynamics of life.<\/p>\n

He said it was necessary to come up with the scheme and that unions should be proactive and be ahead of challenges facing members.<\/p>\n

He appealed to members to support and utilise the scheme.<\/p>\n

Francistown District commissioner, Ms Chabongwa Matseka advised BOPEU member to take advantage of the scheme.<\/p>\n

The new scheme offers a cover of P60 000 for a spouse and children under the age of 16 at a cost of P39.50 per month.<\/p>\n
