Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Members of the Alumni Molefi Secondary School have been hailed for fostering ties with the school in a bid to encourage good academic performance.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking during the alumni launch, which was alongside the official opening of the annual general meeting in Mochudi on Saturday, the Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Aubrey Lesaso, said the strive for academic excellence required all to contribute in every way.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe development of this country can only be achieved through a joint venture by all citizens with the intention to steer the course of growth and economic development the country desperately needs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Lesaso said Molefi was one of the institutions that had not been doing well in the BGCSE over the past years.<\/p>\n

As such, the assistant minister said he was happy with the alumni\u2019s plan to engage with all stakeholders given children\u2019s negative attitude towards learning, which sometimes led to vandalism of school property and fights among pupils.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the assistant minister responsible for education, I wish to encourage such efforts as this in no doubt demonstrates a spirit of selflessness, togetherness, enthusiasm and solidarity in the development of Botswana for Batswana. \u201c<\/p>\n

Mr Lesaso said his ministry had embarked on an outcome-based education for pupils to be equipped with skills, competencies as well as professional ethics to ready them for the world of work.<\/p>\n

Alumni Molefi Secondary School executive chairperson, Mr Isaac Mabiletsa, said they were concerned about the disturbing trend of deteriorating academic excellence.<\/p>\n

One of their objectives was to help pupils improve academic results.<\/p>\n

Mr Mabiletsa said so far they have held motivational talks to inspire pupils, adding that, \u2018this is the beginning of greater things to come.\u2019<\/p>\n

Molefi school head, Mr Khangelani Tshebo, said they were happy to be working with Alumni Molefi with a focus on improving the school\u2019s academic results<\/p>\n

Mr Tshebo said in 2021, they scored 12.27 per cent out of 823 pupils and were at position 33 out of 34 schools.<\/p>\n

He added that in 2022, there was a slight improvement of 15.36 per cent which pegged them at position 29 and attributed the positive move to Molefi Alumni.<\/p>\n

He said the alumni had also donated a photocopying machine and rims of photocopying papers.<\/p>\n

They will also facilitate the maintenance of the photocopying machine for a year.<\/p>\n
