Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi is lobbying for the establishment of a University of Texas in Botswana.<\/b><\/p>\n

In a meeting with the university\u2019s president in Texas on Monday, Dr Richard C Benson, Dr Masisi requested that the institution, which desires to establish an office in Africa, to consider Botswana.<\/p>\n

The university is classified as a doctoral research institution with the highest activity in the area of space science, which Botswana has an active interest in, as well as bioengineering and cyber security.<\/p>\n

President Masisi had on the same day officiated at a one-day Botswana-Dallas business networking engagement during which he informed investors that Botswana possessed appealing attributes for any investor.<\/p>\n

President Masisi said even though Botswana had made noticeable developmental strides, having investors and partners from a city such as Dallas could help the country realise its aspirations of a knowledge-based economy and high income status.<\/p>\n

He said investors and partners would find in Botswana a whole nation state premised on the rule of law as well as boasting a predictable fiscal regime.<\/p>\n

President Masisi told the Dallas business community that Botswana had proven to be trustworthy by maintaining a successful relationship with mining giant, De Beers over many years.<\/p>\n

He implored the Dallas business community to be part of the US Africa Business Summit that Botswana would be hosting in July.<\/p>\n

Earlier, President Masisi was taken on a tour of Axxess company, which organised the networking engagement.<\/p>\n

Axxess is a leading home healthcare technology company headquartered in Dallas which also houses 23 of the US\u2019 Fortune 500 companies.<\/p>\n

For his part, Botswana Investment and Trade Centre chief executive officer Mr Keletsositse Olebile said Botswana was uniquely positioned to be a launch pad for investment into the rest of Africa.<\/p>\n

He informed his audience that the country had in place a framework called Botswana International Financial Service Centre that served as a hub enabling investors to control their investments in other countries from their Botswana bases.<\/p>\n

Mr Olebile explained that companies registered under the framework were incentivised such as being subjected to a low corporate tax rate of 15 per cent.<\/p>\n
