Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>The Good Hope district leadership has been urged to join hands and work towards the achievement of Vision 2036 goals.<\/b><\/p>\n

Addressing Good Hope full council session on Monday, council chairperson Mr Kenaleone Motsaathebe reminded the district leadership of their mandate to deliver service to Batswana.<\/p>\n

\u201cBe reminded that as leaders, our major role is to serve local people and develop our country.<\/p>\n

As a full district, we are now in a good position to successfully deliver President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi\u2019s Reset Agenda,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Councillor Motsaathebe said he was hopeful that as leaders they would introspect on their achievements and objectively evaluate challenges faced and address them as opportunities to improve service delivery.<\/p>\n

\u201cI trust that as a team we will attain higher standards, more so that we are a complete establishment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Regarding the district\u2019s performance in 2022 Primary Schools Leaving Examinations, he said the average percentage dropped by more than 10 per cent.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe average percentage had been between 65 and 69 per cent during the past years until 2021,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Councillor Motsaathebe however said in an effort to address the challenge, there was a plan to support schools that performed badly in order for them to come up with strategies to improve performance.<\/p>\n

He further highlighted that the district had an increased number of child neglect and abuse cases, which ranged from defilement of minors, rape and child abandonment.<\/p>\n

The council chairperson pointed out that the council had therefore through Community Development and Social Services Committee sensitised the community in kgotla meetings about the issues.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was achieved with the support of the community and key stakeholders as the old adage goes, \u2018it takes a village to raise a child,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Councillor Motsaathebe highlighted that fields, boreholes, integrated farms and kraals were being registered by veterinary services for animals eligible for the lucrative EU market and urged farmers to liaise with the relevant authorities for the registration process.<\/p>\n

He explained that live cattle export from farms and beef export from licensed abattoirs was still ongoing until December 31, noting that the district had so far exported 2 300 animals.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll farmers are eligible to export their animals and those interested can liaise with the Department of Veterinary for permit issuance and export compliance,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Good Hope district council chairperson said projects implemented through the Development Maintenance Fund covered five villages, where road edge repairs were done and delivered within budget, time and specification.<\/p>\n
