{"id":23161,"date":"2023-03-04T09:03:43","date_gmt":"2023-03-04T09:03:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/botswana\/all-news\/air-botswana-still-up-for-privatisation"},"modified":"2023-03-04T10:20:06","modified_gmt":"2023-03-04T10:20:06","slug":"air-botswana-still-up-for-privatisation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/botswana\/all-news\/air-botswana-still-up-for-privatisation","title":{"rendered":"Air Botswana Still Up for Privatisation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Botswana. <\/strong><\/span><b>Air Botswana is still lined up for privatisation and the government has directed that a strategic partner be sought for it to make it more commercially viable, the Minister of Transport and Public Works, Eric Molale, has said.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Responding to a question from the MP for Maun West, Dumelang Saleshando, on the status of the airliner, Molale told the House: \u201cAir Botswana continues to implement a recovery plan which is aimed at operational excellence, recovery and growth as well as financial sustainability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the immediate plan is for the airline to get a strategic partner, he added, \u201cthese strategic objectives are still aligned with its privatisation agenda\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Molale recently acknowledged Air Botswana\u2019s challenges in Parliament. \u201cIt is quite evident that for some time our national airline, Air Botswana, has not been performing well,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><b>Financial sustainability<\/b><\/p>\n<p>He added that it is crucial to strengthen the balance sheet of Air Botswana and that the national airline has formulated a turnaround strategy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo this end, the airline has formulated some Value Chain Development oriented projects aimed at revenue diversification and financial sustainability of the airline,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The minister requested P133,600,000 for mandatory engine replacement, maintenance of grounded aircraft and upgrade of Air Botswana\u2019s maintenance and repair facility.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/botswana\">Botswana<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Botswana.
