Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>The Chinese embassy recently handed over a refurbished kgotla shelter to Bakwena tribal leadership in Molepolole recently. <\/b><\/p>\n

The project, which took several months, entailed replacement of old thatch and erection of a new stage as well as tiling of boundary walls.<\/p>\n

It was undertaken in partnership with Molepolole South MP\u2019s office.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Ambassador Wang Xuefeng expressed gratitude that the Chinese government had been given an opportunity to participate in \u2018this very important project\u2019.<\/p>\n

He said the project and many others cemented friendship between Botswana and China.<\/p>\n

Mr Wang said both countries shared some common values among them improvement of their people\u2019s livelihood.<\/p>\n

He promised the leadership that he would constantly engage them on future projects and assist where necessary.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Wang commended the MP, Mr Kabo Morwaeng, who is state president minister, for ensuring the project was a success.<\/p>\n

Echoing the ambassador\u2019s delight at the successful completion of the project, Mr Morwaeng noted that it was delivered on time.<\/p>\n

He said the shelter\u2019s bad state compelled him to seek Chinese government assistance to refurbish it.<\/p>\n

The kgotla, he stated, played a very significant role in Setswana culture because it was a place where all development ideas and issues were discussed.<\/p>\n

Mr Morwaeng said he saw it fit to have the main kgotla shelter attended to before the others could be considered.<\/p>\n

He urged traditional leaders to encourage young people in their wards to help with the refurbishment of the local structures.<\/p>\n

The MP disclosed that government had allocated P25 million towards the upgrading of the main kgotla offices.<\/p>\n

Kgosi Kgari III thanked the Chinese government for the gesture and promised to ensure that the shelter was well preserved.<\/p>\n
