Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Kweneng District councillors have given a thumbs up to the council\u2019s 2023\/24 recurrent budget which comes with a slight increase of about 5.5 per cent.<\/b><\/p>\n

Presenting the budget on Monday, Finance Committee chairperson, Mr Obakeng Kgabo said the approved income budget had slightly increased to about P229m as compared to 2022\/23 budget of about P217m.<\/p>\n

A breakdown of the entire budget, which includes the combined funds of the two district councils formerly known as Molepolole\/Lentsweletau Administrative Authority sub-council and headquarters show a Revenue Support Grant of over P214m and about P14m accrued from the district council\u2019s own revenue sources.<\/p>\n

From the total approved expenditure of P229.2m, over P117m will be allocated to personnel emoluments while a little over P31m or about 13.7 per cent will be used for running expenses. Over P28m will be allocated to establishment expenses and about P51m will cater for special votes.<\/p>\n

Mr Kgabo said the budget was likely to increase in anticipation of the looming staff movements which might see some positions rendered redundant owing to the establishment of new district councils.<\/p>\n
