Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>De Beers is committed to advancing Botswana\u2019s vision of building a knowledge-based economy.<\/b><\/p>\n

The company\u2019s chief executive officer, Mr Al Cook, said this on Friday after paying a courtesy on President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi.<\/p>\n

When briefing the media, Mr Cook said the diamond mining giant wanted to continue playing its role as Botswana\u2019s strategic development partner.<\/p>\n

Mr Cook, who was accompanied by the outgoing CEO, Mr Bruce Cleaver and De Beers resident director, Mr Neo Moroka, said based on the constructive meeting with President Masisi, he was confident that the partnership would continue.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a constructive meeting with President Masisi and it was a good conversation about the future,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Mr Cook also said President Masisi had the interests of Batswana at heart.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is very clear that first and foremost in the President\u2019s mind is the interest of the Botswana people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said President Masisi advocated for Batswana\u2019s long-term benefits in the diamond deal that his company had with Botswana government.<\/p>\n
