Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Department of Broadcasting and Multichoice Botswana will help to support content evaluation and the packaging of the Botswana Television channels, says the Deputy Permanent Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Services Oshinka Tsiang.<\/b><\/p>\n

He was speaking during the signing of the MOU on mutual cooperation on technical support and content development in Gaborone on Monday.<\/p>\n

Tsiang said he was excited about the collaboration as it would enhance what the department had been doing as part of branding services to attract viewership by producing compelling content.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis MoU means skills development that pertains to broadcasting especially when it comes to developing, imaging and market promotion,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Tsiang also said the MoU promised viewers content that would be more appealing since their stories would be shared with the rest of the world.<\/p>\n

He said this would create advertising opportunities for the channels in particular BTV 24 and Btv 1 which were already part of the DSTV bouquet. He said after upskilling by Multichoice, channel Btv 2 will also be added to the bouquet.<\/p>\n

Southern Africa Multichoice Regional Director Jabavu Heshu said the collaboration meant providing training and technical support either diagnosing and repairing faults, resolving network issues and also installing and configuring hardware and software for better viewership and good content.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis means unlocking opportunities for creative and content creators but also giving them a platform for their content to be seen in the region and the content,\u201d he said. Also the collaboration he said would create jobs for content creators, and all in the creative space.<\/p>\n

He expressed hope that the collaboration would give birth to Botswana TV drama series which would be viewed in other parts of the world. He said Batswana were proud of their culture therefore their stories being shared with the people in London or Nigeria would also help retain the audience.<\/p>\n

He said with Botswana television content plan would see the TV channels attracting a larger audience while producing important local stories because community impact was a good strategy for improving ratings. <\/b><\/p>\n
