Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Gaborone City Council have maintained a number of schools through development budget, recurrent budget and constituency funding, city mayor, Mr Austin Abraham has said.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking during the ongoing GCC virtual meeting, he said most of the primary schools were in a dilapidated stage and needed maintenance, adding that under development budget, five schools were maintained at the tune of P12 057 416 million and works were complete.<\/p>\n

The schools he said included amongst others Galaletsang, Tshwaragano, Diphetogo, Bosele and Tsholofelo.<\/p>\n

Mr Abraham also confirmed that Itumeleng, Bontleng and Ithuteng were done through Community Constituency Programme (CCP).<\/p>\n

For 2023\/2024, Boikhutso Primary school received P3 950 000 million, for facilities backlog eradication while Boitumelo would get P2 331 000 million.<\/p>\n

Another funded project was design and pre-contract of a new primary schools in Block 10, he said.<\/p>\n

He further confirmed that construction of the two new primary schools at Phase 4 and Block 6 are progressing well and contractors were granted four months extra time for completion.<\/p>\n

He said the schools were re-scheduled for completion by March 31 adding that the school heads for the two primary schools had been appointed to prepare for the schools\u2019 opening, scheduled for second term. Regarding revenue collection the city mayor said council was currently facing challenges with regard to maximising the potential for revenue collection. Income from Own Sources to date stood at P64 207 749 million against a budget of P141 813 450 million, that is 45% collected so far.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a sign that there is need to intensify revenue collection.<\/p>\n

Revenue collection is among my priorities for Council to us to continue with sustainable service delivery\u201d said the Mayor.<\/p>\n

He appealed to all plot owners and all those owing Council, to settle their bills.<\/p>\n
