Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Botswana has dispatched over 21 tonnes of relief items to Malawi in the wake of the devastating effects of Cyclone Freddy which ripped through some parts of the country.<\/b><\/p>\n

The consignment, consisting of food items, toiletries and bottled water, was sent off by Acting President Slumber Tsogwane.<\/p>\n

He said the donation follows last week\u2019s fact finding mission to Malawi by Minister for State President, Mr Kabo Morwaeng and Minister of Defence and Security, Mr Kagiso Mmusi.<\/p>\n

Mr Tsogwane said subsequent to the mission, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi had called on all Batswana, including the business community, to help the people of Malawi.<\/p>\n

Apart from food, the cyclone victims also needed the likes of clothing and blankets, he pointed out<\/p>\n

The acting president stated that over 300 people had lost their lives to the cyclone while hundreds were unaccounted for.<\/p>\n

An employee of local supermarket chain giant, Choppies, Mr Kebonyemodisa Kebonyemodisa, said his company together with Bolux, Trans Africa and CA Sales responded to the call to assist the people of Malawi.<\/p>\n

He said the choice of donations, covering maize meal, milk, tsabana and washing power, was guided by the needs of those affected.<\/p>\n

Mr Kebonyemodisa urged individuals and other companies to also help the people of Malawi.<\/p>\n

Ministry for State President Assistant Minister Mr Dumezweni Mthimkhulu is leading the delegation to hand over the consigment.<\/p>\n
