Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>The 8th annual purple walk is scheduled for Gaborone, Saturday in honour of epilepsy survivors.<\/b><\/p>\n

A press statement from Young Epilepsy Botswana (YEB) said the walk to be held under the theme: So They Never Have a Seizure Again, kicks off at 6am will start at Grand Palm Resort.<\/p>\n

Participants will then proceed to Riverwalk Mall and back to Grand Palm Resort and the Minister of Health Dr Edwin Dikoloti is the chief walker.<\/p>\n

The statement further notes that the walk will raise awareness of epilepsy.<\/p>\n

According to YEB, the purple walk is commemorated worldwide on March 26, however, in Botswana, the march will be held a day before the global commemoration day.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe walk serves to raise awareness on the prevalence and impact of using medication to manage seizure attacks,\u201d YEB Public Relations and Communication Specialist Ms Bame Motsomatshukhudu said in a press statement.<\/p>\n

She noted that over the years they have realised that people default from medication that controlled seizure attacks.<\/p>\n

\u201cEpilepsy medication is there to control the seizures,\u201d she said, cautioning can put a person living with epilepsy at risk especially those that are affected by a constant seizure disorder.<\/p>\n

Young Epilepsy Botswana was established in 2008 by Ithabeleng Khan, an epileptic and her mother Naledi, with the objective to raise awareness of the disease as well as provide support to parents and children living with epilepsy as well as individuals affected.<\/p>\n
