Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Anthony Pesela finished first in 200 metres at the National Stadium on Saturday.<\/b><\/p>\n

This was in preparation for the FNB Botswana Golden Grand Prix.<\/p>\n

Pesela was followed by Zimbabwean Makusha Ngoni while Zambian Siame Sydney came third.<\/p>\n

Speaking after the race, Pesela said he was happy that he was getting in shape after a rough season last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am refreshed and ready to offer the world what I know best this season,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Pesela said he decided to run 200 metres in order to increase his 400 metres speed.<\/p>\n

He noted that there were major competitions coming up such as the world championships and Olympic qualifications.<\/p>\n

Christine Botlogetswe dominated the 200 metres female race and was followed by Sethunya Majama and Lebitso Mokorofu.<\/p>\n

Another race that was a marvel to watch was 800 metres where Tshepiso Masalela and Boitumelo Masilo kept spectators on their toes as they went stride for stride until the last 200 metres.<\/p>\n

Masalela edged forward and Masilo came second while third position went to Kethobogile Haingura.<\/p>\n

In 400 metres men, Edwin Masuge finished first with Stanley Matutu close by and Lefika Ntebo in third.<\/p>\n

Naledi Lopang finished first in 400 metres women followed by Zambian Rhoda Ndjovu and Lydia Jele claimed third position.<\/p>\n

FNB Botswana Golden Grand Prix organising committee chairperson, Geoffrey Gare, said the competition went well and that the dry run had shown some areas that needed to be perfected before the main event.<\/p>\n

He said he was happy with the number of spectators, adding he was confident that more would come for the main event on April 29.<\/p>\n

Gare also said the level of competition was satisfactory.<\/p>\n
