Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Malaria cases on the rise in Okavango<\/b><\/p>\n

Okavango District Health Management Team (DHMT) has recorded higher cases of Malaria this current season as compared to the last one.<\/p>\n

Okavango District Council chairperson, Mr Gaopalelwe Ronald made the observation in his speech when opening the full council on Monday.<\/p>\n

Mr Ronald said Okavango the DHMT had registered 174 cases of Malaria and one death from October 2022 to date, compared to 97 cases that were registered the previous Malaria season.<\/p>\n

He therefore cautioned that the public should seek medical attention whenever they experienced signs and symptoms of Malaria such as fever, headache, generalised body pains, nausea and vomiting.<\/p>\n

Mr Ronald however noted that the Okavango DHMT continued with its interventions in the fight against Malaria, adding that the Indoor Residual Spray (IRS) which aimed not only to curb Malaria transmission but eliminate the disease altogether, commenced in October last year.<\/p>\n

Even though the IRS was once suspended due to shortage of the insecticide, he said it resumed on January 4.<\/p>\n

On other matters, Mr Ronald said about 14 081 children aged between zero to seven years had been vaccinated during the first round of the oral polio vaccination campaign. He attributed the positive outcome to the support from stakeholders in the district.<\/p>\n

The second round of the campaign is scheduled for March 30 to April 2.<\/p>\n

Mr Ronald therefore encouraged parents and care givers to ensure that all children got the second oral polio immunisation.<\/p>\n
