Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Botswana Teachers Union (BTU) has signed new partnerships with Diagnofirm Medical laboratories and Institute of Development Management (IDM) to support health and wellbeing of members.<\/b><\/p>\n

Announcing the new partnerships during a press briefing in Gaborone on Monday, BTU National Treasurer Mr James Poshudi said the partnerships would help achieve common goals for higher safety standards, better working conditions and reductions in accidents and ill-health.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe initiative will awaken health awareness of the members with a view to having a preventative approach to good health management,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The partnership with Diagnofirm Medical laboratories provides discounted offerings to BTU and its members on professional laboratory services, disease awareness campaigns, workplace health talks, health risk assessment and discounts on core payments.<\/p>\n

Mr Poshudi said teachers usually faced overwhelming workloads, high-stress levels, and a significant risk of compassion fatigue.<\/p>\n

He said BTU had also set up offices in Mogoditshane with a toll-free line and experts to offer psychosocial support services to members.<\/p>\n

He said BTU entered into an agreement with IDM to assist members to access affordable programmes of study in an effort to improve their academic and professional qualifications.<\/p>\n

He pointed out this came after realising that the number of members in private study was increasing saying this demonstrated members zeal to improve their qualifications.<\/p>\n

Mr Poshudi confirmed that through the IDM partnership, members would enjoy subsidized fees by 30 per cent, flexible payment methods and interest-free advances for study.<\/p>\n

The press conference themed: Selfless and commitment to serve the union members, was meant to share the progress of the July 2022 congress, labour issues in education, latest on corporal punishment as well as the union\u2019s contribution to effective and productive education.<\/p>\n
