Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Digital development is a necessary investment for the youth to inherit a much more equal society where knowledge and data accessibility disparities are eradicated.<\/b><\/p>\n

To that end, Botswana and other African countries continued to invest in digital development and Internet connectivity to empower youth and give them an opportunity to lead, Mr Tumiso Rakgare said in Gaborone recently.<\/p>\n

The youth, gender, sport and culture minister was addressing the 5th Africa youth entrepreneurs summit held under the theme: Internet of Things, Africa\u2019s Next Growth Frontier.<\/p>\n

He said the summit was in line with Botswana\u2019s Reset Agenda, particularly with regard to digitisation and mindset change.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need the Internet to make our services more accessible and we need to change our mindset to believe in ourselves as Africans,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Applauding the founder and president of AYES, Ms Lemogang Senwelo, he said her brilliant idea of bringing together entrepreneurs from across the continent was actually putting into practice the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement ideals.<\/p>\n

For her part, Ms Senwelo said her organisation was established in 2017 after noticing the lack of platforms where young African entrepreneurs could share ideas on building the continent.<\/p>\n

AYES provided youth-owned infant businesses, medium enterprises and Africa\u2019s leading young entrepreneurs with a platform for connecting to create the largest and leading provider of innovation information, she said.<\/p>\n

The organisation has been supported by among others the youth ministry, Stanbic Bank and Hollard Insurance Botswana.<\/p>\n

Among the participants was Botswana\u2019s Mr Mmoloki Pitse, a highly experienced drone pilot and flight operations director at Drones for Africa who presented on the evolution of drone technology in Botswana and Africa.<\/p>\n

The summit, which attracted participants from South Africa, Malawi and Zimbabwe, saw the launching of the Alonda App, a platform that instantly connects users to rapid response services during emergencies.<\/p>\n
