{"id":25138,"date":"2023-04-05T16:54:21","date_gmt":"2023-04-05T16:54:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/botswana\/?p=25138"},"modified":"2023-04-05T16:54:21","modified_gmt":"2023-04-05T16:54:21","slug":"tawana-returns-to-batawana-throne","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/botswana\/all-news\/tawana-returns-to-batawana-throne","title":{"rendered":"Tawana returns to Batawana throne"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Botswana. <\/strong><\/span><b>Kgosi Tawana II was welcomed with ululations as he returned to his Batawana throne in Maun on Monday.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Hundreds gathered at Maun kgotla singing songs of joy with women wearing mateisi and ditjale to welcome their chief after spending 20 years away from office.<\/p>\n<p>Kgosi Tawana II took leave in 2003 to pursue a political career, subsequently her sister, Kgosi Kealetile Moremi, held fort until March 31, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>In his address, Kgosi Charles Letsholathebe thanked Kgosi Tawana II for holding fort for her brother since 2004 and handing over smoothly.<\/p>\n<p>He said in 2003, Kgosi Tawana II informed Batawana that he was pursuing a political career and promised that he would return to his bogosi duties in future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cO ne wa re laela re le morafe ka ngwaga wa 2003 fa o ya dipolotiking ka jalo re ne ra go letlelela gore o tsamaye ka re ne re tshepa gore o tla boela mme letsatsi ke le o boetse mo setilong sa gago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kgosi Letsholathebe thanked Kgosi Tawana II for playing an advocacy role for Batawana while he was in Parliament having safeguarded Maun Education Park and Moremi Game Reserve as they still remained under custody of Batawana.<\/p>\n<p>He said Kgosi Tawana II was familiar with Bogosi duties hence they expected him to visit all people under Batawana for consultations pertaining to the future.<\/p>\n<p>In her remarks, Kgosi Moremi expressed her joy and pride over her brother\u2019s return to the throne.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday I hand back your seat and I hope I represented you well as Batawana regent and I promise to support you in your future when the need arises,\u201d Kgosi Moremi added.<\/p>\n<p>She highlighted that bogosi duties had evolved, adding the world today posed many social challenges and ills.<\/p>\n<p>Kgosi Moremi promised to protect her younger brother at all times so that he could succeed in his duties.<\/p>\n<p>For his part, Kgosi Tawana II thanked his sister for holding fort while he was away from office acknowledging that it was a long break.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I left in 2003, I told you and everyone else that I will come back and here I am today, and I would like to thank you for your patience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kgosi Tawana II promised to be a good leader to his people and thanked the tribe for the love and support they rendered to him at all times even when he pursued politics.<\/p>\n<p>MP for Maun West, Mr Dumelang Saleshando wished Kgosi Tawana II well as he resumed office and he pledged to continue working alongside bogosi.<\/p>\n<p>He said bogosi should be held in high regard.<\/p>\n<p>He commended Kgosi Moremi for holding fort for her brother and for a smooth handing over of the throne.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/botswana\">Botswana<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Botswana.
