Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>The role played by the church in knitting together and shaping the moral fabric of the society is as relevant as it was in the past, Vice President Slumber Tsogwane has said.<\/b><\/p>\n

It is to this end that government continues to create ecosystems that give church the latitude to operate without a qualm.<\/p>\n

Vice President Tsogwane said this during Spiritual Healing Church’s service in Matsiloje on Good Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe role played by the church transcends spiritual development and as government, we are thankful for the void that has been filled by the church over the years in the socio-economic and spiritual development of our people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The church, according to the Vice President, has been at the forefront of the war against gender based violence that continues to rock the country. He said the church provided psycho-social support to the community.<\/p>\n

This, he added, the church did out of obligation and the love for God and fellow human beings.<\/p>\n

\u201cGo a rerwa go a buiwa, go a rutwa mme ebile le fa go nna le dintsho kereke ke yone e e etelelang pele thulaganyo tsotlhe tsa thero le gone go gomotsa, e bo e kgaleme tsotlhe tse di seng molemo mo setshabeng,\u201d he said summing up the critical role played by the church in nation building.<\/p>\n

He cited that even before the advent of the GBV, the church had been a forerunner and promoted biblical ideologies such as marriage before sex as opposed to cohabitation, which fuelled GBV.<\/p>\n

Mr Tsogwane also made a clarion call to Batswana to introspect with a view to do things differently, especially to take care of their spirituality and walk with God.<\/p>\n

He stated that it was also incumbent upon Batswana to exercise caution on the road to keep accidents at bay.<\/p>\n
