Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>The church plays an important role in moulding the nation hence should be taken good care of, says Member of Parliament for Boteti East.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking at the annual Faith Gospel After Christ Church (FGACC)\u2019 clap and tap Easter competitions in Ratholo, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe said it was the church that prayed for the national leadership and any social ill that befell the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is the church that intervenes through prayers and the country enjoys the benefits of such prayers. Today as a sovereign country, Botswana is proudly a Christian nation and we are still among the nations who fear God, hence the peace and tranquility,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The MP was impressed by the number of young people taking part in church choir competitions, saying it was an indication that Botswana had a bright future of the youth population that feared God.<\/p>\n

Mr Lelatisitswe commended the FGACC choirs for not only preaching the gospel, but also doing philanthropist work.<\/p>\n

In 2014 church choirs initiated a project in which they built a house for a less privileged person in Tumasera, while the second house was built in 2018 at Tshimoyapula.<\/p>\n

This, the legislator highlighted, fulfilled the Human and Social Development pillar of the country\u2019s vision 2036.<\/p>\n

The church choirs are also said to have launched the donate a pad campaign last year November, which saw more than 1 000 packets of sanitary pads donated to Mmaphula JSS in Palapye.<\/p>\n

Chairperson of the church choirs, Mr Cedrick Luka said the objective of annual clap and tap Easter competitions was to spread the word of God through music.<\/p>\n

Another objective, he said, was to give back to the community from proceeds of such.<\/p>\n

He said like any other gathering in the country, they were also affected by the COVID-19, hence the two year halt and resumption this year.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, 14 choirs of FGACC branches across the country battled it out in a competition that saw the youthful Masama choir emerging victorious.<\/p>\n
