Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Research is key in efforts to address day to day health challenges among communities.<\/b><\/p>\n

During an interaction with the visiting delegation from the United States\u2019 Rutgers University in Gaborone on Tuesday, University of Botswana (UB)vice chancellor, Professor David Norris, said through research, it was easy to come up with long-lasting solutions that would also be relevant to the needs and expectations of communities.<\/p>\n

The delegation\u2019s two-day visit is to actualise a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the two universities in 2018 with the intention to pursue student and staff exchange research collaborations.<\/p>\n

However, the MoU was not fully implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

As such, Professor Norris said while the MoU contract was expected to come to an end this year, there was need for the two institutions to consider renewing and strengthening it to intensify health research.<\/p>\n

He said collaboration with Rutgers University was a stepping stone to research about non-communicable diseases that included cancer, diabetes and stroke.<\/p>\n

\u201cA renewed contract with Rutgers University will be a stepping stone for us to exploit and focus on cancer. This is one of the institutions that are at an advanced stage regarding research on cancer. The outcomes will always go a long way to assist us to address cancer related matters,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the visit is to further develop strategic relations between the two institutions and to exploit specific areas for collaboration.<\/p>\n

This also includes exploring students\u2019 mobility, staff exchange and other academic qualification. <\/b><\/p>\n
