Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Street lights not only enhance the safety of residents of a particular area, but also improve the overall quality of life.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking during launch of solar street lights project in Gaborone Bonnington North Constituency recently, Gaborone mayor, Mr Austin Abraham, said in addition to the common benefit of enhancing security, street lighting also artificially extended a day\u2019s working hours, thereby allowing people to continue to engage in activities beneficial to them. \u201cPedestrians and vulnerable road users suffer from decreased visibility in the dark and it is for this reason that the installation of these solar street lights is of importance,\u201d he said, explaining that the city council was aware of the need to make the safety of the community a priority.<\/p>\n

Area MP and Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Ms Annah Mokgethi commended government for the project, noting that it would impact the community positively.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are eager to see this project commence at the earliest possible time and be completed within budget and most importantly this project should benefit the community of Gaborone at large,\u201d said Ms Mokgethi.<\/p>\n

Project manager, Mr John Motshega, said the project, which would entail the installation of 115 solar street lights and would take 13 weeks to complete, was funded through the road fund levy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis project ought to begin on April 24 and will be completed on July 24, 2023 with a manufacturer\u2019s warranty period of five years as well as a six -month defect liability period,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
