Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Botswana is ready to grow its bilateral relations with Kenya.<\/b><\/p>\n

Addressing a Kenya delegation led by Deputy President, Mr Rigathi Gachagua during a courtesy call at Office of the President on Monday, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi noted that the two nations bilateral relations dated back to 1966.<\/p>\n

Dr Masisi applauded the newly elected Kenyan government under the stewardship of Dr William Ruto.<\/p>\n

Stating that he would be attending UN matters in Kenya in June, President Masisi said he was looking forward to having a bilateral side meeting with President Ruto.<\/p>\n

For his part, Mr Gachagua commended Batswana for their warm welcome.<\/p>\n

He concurred with President Masisi that the two countries continued to nurture and grow their good relations.<\/p>\n

He said he was hopeful that the visit would enhance the already good relations between the two nations. Mr Gachagua also said the two countries should explore new areas of cooperation and enhance their relationship for the benefit of their people.<\/p>\n

On trade, Mr Gachuga said the volume was low and that he was hopeful that through discussions and engagements the level would increase.<\/p>\n

The Kenya vice president noted that his country was an economic hub for East Africa and that there were investment opportunities for Botswana companies and individuals.<\/p>\n

He suggested that President Masisi include a few businessmen in his delegation to explore opportunities in Kenya.<\/p>\n

Mr Gachuga, who had met with Kenyan citizens residing in Botswana, also presented challenges facing them.<\/p>\n

He said some of them had been in the country for over 30 years and were requesting that those who had permits, unless there were adverse reports about their behaviour, be allowed to continue residing in the country.<\/p>\n

He added that they had indicated that there were challenges in relation to renewal of permits.<\/p>\n

The Kenyan delegation is in Botswana to attend the ongoing Forbes30 summit and Mr Gachuga congratulated the country for hosting the event. He said he was looking to the successful conclusion of the summit.<\/p>\n
