Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Motswedi Rehabilitation has been hailed for empowering People With Disabilities (PWDs) .<\/b><\/p>\n

As such the center\u2019s was applauded for their dedication and support of the youth with special needs.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the centre\u2019s graduation of 41 PWDs, Kgatleng District Council Chairperson, Mr Daniel Molokwe said education was a lifetime investment to the graduates, their families, communities and the country of Botswana at large, hence it was important for all to continuously provide support and encouragement during the graduates\u2019 journey of life outside school.<\/p>\n

Regarding the theme of the day: Not all Disabilities are Visible; Allow Me to Participate Within my Capacity, was relevant as it meant creating an enabling environment and allow PWDs to take part in the economy of Botswana within their capacity.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is very important for the nation to make the environment where people with disabilities live as inclusive as possible so that they as well have an equal share of the economy. Challenge these young people to be leaders of the community embodying the principle of selflessness and self-reliance,\u201d Mr Molokwe said.<\/p>\n

National Disability Coordinating Office director, Ms Peggy Garebaitse highlighted that the establishment of the Disability Coordinating Office together with the 1996 National Policy on care for people with disabilities recognised the importance of disability rights for all individuals and that sectors must integrate disabled persons in their mandates.<\/p>\n

She said government had taken appropriate measures towards creating a disability friendly society and that Botswana was at an advanced stage to have the disability law, which was envisaged to promote and protect the rights of people with disabilities.<\/p>\n

She said by giving equal opportunities and respect to the disabled persons, a sense of growth and confidence was cultivated in them.<\/p>\n

Ms Garebaitse encouraged the graduates to utilise the skills that they had learnt from the institution to go and face the world because through the education received, they could partner and establish viable businesses.<\/p>\n

She also encouraged parents who had graced the event to help the government to fully support the graduates either financially or materially to appreciate their hard work.<\/p>\n

Motswedi Center Coordinator Mr Dikgang Tlhowe acknowledged the graduates, their families, caregivers and the welfare institutions for the continued support and encouragement they gave during the journey of life.<\/p>\n

Mr Tlhowe said though they experienced a lot of challenges during the journey of learning, they managed to graduate individuals from the faculty of Cookery and Housekeeping, Carpentry and Joinery, Horticulture and Dress making.<\/p>\n

Motswedi Rehabilitation Center is a non-profit organisation that provides services for people with disabilities since 1995.<\/p>\n
