Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>The Gamalete Demarcation Committee will soon start consulting with residents of various polling districts across the constituency.<\/b><\/p>\n

This was said by chairperson of the committee, Ms Sebokwane Dikgope during a consultative meeting with the village leadership recently<\/p>\n

Ms Dikgope, who is also District Commissioner for Ramotswa District, said post submission of the Delimitation Commission Report to President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi in February this year Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) secretary appointed a well-trained demarcation committee to work with instructions and ideas from stakeholders who were knowledgeable of existing constituencies that could be divided as council wards and polling districts.<\/p>\n

She said Gamalete demarcation committee met with the district leadership to inform them on the demarcation exercise which was expected to start on May 8 this year..<\/p>\n

Ms Dikgope said the committee was ready to start work by consulting with residents of various polling districts in the constituency.<\/p>\n

She further said following the delimitation commission, Gamalete constituency increased the polling districts from the initial 11 to 13 since Kgale and Lobatse farms had been added to the constituency.<\/p>\n

She said consultative meetings would be held in the 13 polling districts, including the two newly added Kgale and Lobatse farms.<\/p>\n

Ms Dikgope said the committee was expected to submit the report to the secretary of IEC not later than June 25, 2023.<\/p>\n

For her part Principal Electoral Officer for Ramotswa District, Ms Legakwa Molebatsi said the purpose of such consultations was to sensitise and source ideas from the community about possible boundaries to be used to form the new council and new polling stations.<\/p>\n

Magosi expressed varying sentiments during the meeting with some expressing concern about the clash of political and administrative boundaries.<\/p>\n
