Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>A safe and healthy working environment requires active participation by both the employer and employee through a system of defined responsibilities and duties as well as dialogue and cooperation, says head of Business Centre, Mr Donald Moagi.<\/b><\/p>\n

Officiating at the WUC World Day for Safety and Health at Serowe on Friday, Mr Moagi said Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) was committed to providing and promoting a safe and healthy work place.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo attain this, WUC implemented the Occupational Health and Safety management system (OHS),\u201d said Mr Moagi, adding that the systematic approach promoted a safe and healthy working environment focusing on the establishment of policies and programmes to foster a preventative occupational safe and healthy culture.<\/p>\n

Commemorated under the theme; A Safe and Healthy Working Environment – a Fundamental Right,\u201d Mr Moagi said OHS created a safe working environment by identifying hazards, eliminating possible risks, protecting equipment as well as managing incidents to prevent ill-health and injuries.<\/p>\n

Therefore, Mr Moagi urged all employees to be part of change by actively participating in the attainment of a safe and healthy working environment to prevent accidents and ill-health in the workplace.<\/p>\n

Mr Moagi said WUC employees were empowered through inhouse training and short courses aimed at achieving safety and wellness at work among them basic first aid and fire-fighting.<\/p>\n

He emphasised that the current financial tear would prioritise areas where training was urgently required such as chlorine handling, emergency preparedness and training for those working in confined spaces.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Mr Moagi commended WUC employees for their commitment to health and wellness as well as promoting a safe working environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere safety prevails, human life is free from danger,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
