Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Largely normal and above-normal temperatures are likely to be experienced throughout the country this winter season. <\/b><\/p>\n

Department of Meteorological Services principal meteorologist, Mr John Stegling said a warm winter was expected although there would be cold spells from time to time.<\/p>\n

In the northern part of the country, including Ngamiland, North Central and Chobe, Mr Stegling said, maximum and minimum temperatures were expected to be 27\u00b0C or higher and 9\u00b0C or higher while maximum and minimum temperatures of 24\u00b0C or higher and 7\u00b0C or higher were expected over the East, North East and the South Central districts.<\/p>\n

As for Kgalagadi, Ghanzi, Southern, South East, Kgatleng and Kweneng, he said maximum and minimum temperatures of 23\u00b0C or more and 5\u00b0C or more were anticipated.<\/p>\n

However, Mr Stegling emphasised that the forecast was only for the months of May to July, adding that local and intra-seasonal variations were likely to occur resulting in \u2018cold spells from time to time.\u2019<\/p>\n

On whether any rainfall should be expected this winter season, the principal meteorologist noted that the country experienced a minimal rainfall of less than 20 millimetres on average in winter.<\/p>\n

He said the likelihood of heavy rainfall during winter was low. He, however, said in the unlikely occurrence of such rainfall, they would inform the public in advance.<\/p>\n

Despite the warm winter season outlook, Mr Stegling has advised the public to take the normal winter precautions such as wearing appropriate warm outdoor clothing.<\/p>\n

The principal meteorologist advised the public to contact them for any additional guidance.<\/p>\n
