Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Reading can go a long way towards improving literacy, academic performance and equipping readers with important life skills.<\/b><\/p>\n

In the spirit of encouraging reading, Khoemacau Copper Mine recently donated various books to Legotlhwane Primary School and Sehithwa Reading Room.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the donation, the mine\u2019s acting general manager, Neo Kwakwa said they were concerned about poor result in schools within their area of operation, and believed that the books would help.<\/p>\n

He said the donation followed a recent education stakeholder retreat organised by the mine to establish the cause of poor results in schools.<\/p>\n

One of the recommendations, he said, was for all stakeholders to help inculcate the spirit of reading in children.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe books are our seed and we believe that they will indeed make a huge difference in [their academic] results,\u201d he said. Mr Kwakwa encouraged learners to cultivate a love for reading to improve knowledge and outlook on life.<\/p>\n

He said this was not the first time they were assiting Legotlhwane Primary School as they once donated a classroom to it. The idea, he said, was to turn the same classroom into a library, hence the donation.<\/p>\n

Member of Parliament for Ngami constituency, Mr Caterpillar Hikuama thanked the mine for contributing to the development and growth of the children\u2019s education, saying the books would help improve leareners\u2019 academic performance.<\/p>\n

He called on students to make use of the books to help improve their comprehension and language skills.<\/p>\n

Mr Hikuama also urged parents to cultivate a habit of reading at home to encourage children to read.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cI encourage you to take the necessary steps including utilising libraries to foster the habit of reading among children\u201d .<\/p>\n
