Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Botswana\u2019s Competition and Consumer Authority has prohibited AkzoNobel\u2019s proposed acquisition of Kansai Paint\u2019s African operations, becoming the first authority to block a controversial deal that is being probed by other enforcers across the continent.<\/b><\/p>\n

About 45,000 patients have received medical treatment in Botswana’s most remote parts following the introduction of flight services for medical specialists with foreign support in 2008, a Botswanan official said Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Botswanan Health Minister Edwin Dikoloti made the remarks during an event marking the resumption of air transportation of medical specialists to the southern African country’s most rural health facilities after it was halted in 2017.<\/p>\n

Since the start of the services in 2008, more than 400 health workers have been transported, along with hundreds of kilograms of medications, said Dikoloti.<\/p>\n

The program makes it easier for Botswana’s already stretched health professionals to visit remote areas and be back at their workstations in the shortest time possible, he said.<\/p>\n

It is also in line with the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals, especially goal number three which emphasizes universal health coverage, Dikoloti added.<\/p>\n

According to the UN, Botswana is one of the few developing countries where more than 80 percent of the population is able to access basic health care services within a walking distance from their homes.<\/p>\n
