Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Batawana have pleaded with their paramount chief, Kgosi Tawana II, to urgently address certain issues affecting his community.<\/b><\/p>\n

Kgosi Tawana II returned to the kgotla last month after 20 years of absence.<\/p>\n

Batawana made the remarks during a colourful welcome ceremony in Maun on Friday.<\/p>\n

They stated that they long wished for his return to lead the tribe in building a cohesive and safe society.<\/p>\n

Residents called on their traditional leader to join forces with others and address issues as juvenile delinquency, crime, high divorce rate and children who abused parents. They said flogging was the panacea to bad behavior.<\/p>\n

Residents condemned adults who sold drugs and other habit forming substance to children.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnruly behaviour among children has become the order of the day nowadays. Parents live in fear because children abuse them physically, verbally and emotionally while some fight them for their old pension. We believe that bare back flogging is the solution instead of sending offenders to jail,\u201d stated one resident, Mr Babinang Majatsie.<\/p>\n

He stated that the main kgotla was overwhelmed with cases of bad behavior because it was also where schools sought assistance to deal with pupils who misbehaved.<\/p>\n

North West District commissioner, Mr Thabang Waloka welcomed Kgosi Tawana and assured him of support from the district leadership support.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe promise to work together as leaders and address challenges faced by communities,\u201d stated Mr Waloka.<\/p>\n

For his part, Kgosi Tawana II appreciated the love and warm reception from the community. He promised to set a date to discuss concerns in order to come up with the long-term and sustainable solutions.<\/p>\n

He also thanked his sister, Kgosi Kealetile Moremi for serving the tribe well as a regent.<\/p>\n
