Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>The Withdrawal of Gender Based Violence (GBV) cases under investigation hinders Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) efforts to take culprits to task.<\/b><\/p>\n

This, according to DPP Maun Head of station Mr Universe Kabecha was a concern, as GBV cases affecting mainly women and children continued to escalate.<\/p>\n

He said this the during a Gender Based Violence campaign in Gumare. recently<\/p>\n

Mr Kabecha said the other issue of concern was that of some key witnesses who withdraw as when cases were already before courts of law.<\/p>\n

A prosecutor in Maun Ms Tebogo Kaome said that some cases were lost or failed to go before the courts due to lack of enough evidence.<\/p>\n

Ms Kaome therefore urged members of the public to preserve evidence and follow all necessary steps especially when it comes to rape cases.<\/p>\n

\u201cVictims of rape should report early, should not bath to avoid messing with the evidence so as to help identify the culprit,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The prosecutor said members of the public should help the police with investigations by providing all evidence which would then help the prosecutors to resolve the cases.<\/p>\n

Sub Inspector Morgan Kanjoo of Gumare Police said that statistics from their policing area showed that eight cases of rape were reported between January and April this year, while four cases of defilement, three cases of murder and 24 cases of assault were recorded in the same period.<\/p>\n
