Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Lack of project supervision and coordination in Okavango district has negative impact on projects continuity.<\/b><\/p>\n

This was said by the Minister of Transport and Public Works, Mr Eric Molale when briefing the Okavango District special full council on projects under his ministry in the district on Friday.<\/p>\n

Mr Molale observed that although his ministry was implementing Economic Inclusion Act, some projects were behind schedule due to lack of proper supervision.<\/p>\n

He said as a full-fledged district, the Okavango district leadership should take some responsibility and decisions in some minor works that required tendering such as de-bushing of roads. Mr Molale also said the ministry would also improve on supervision of projects at local level instead it being remotely done by supervisors in Gaborone.<\/p>\n

\u201cProperly conducted supervision helps the project to stay on budget and schedule which reduces risks and improves quality,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He observed that delays in some projects affected upcoming projects, noting that there was need to construct a road connecting Okavango River Bridge to Gudigwa.<\/p>\n

On district road projects, Mr Molale said the Gumare-Mohembo road maintenance, which its groundbreaking was done in January, would see actual work starting in June, as the Ministry and the contractor for the Gumare-Sepopa road had wrapped up issues that were lagging behind in the initial contract..<\/p>\n

Mr Molale also said that the road maintenance would include some access roads to the villages along the Gumare-Mohembo road such as Etsha 1, Etsha 6, Etsha 13 and Ikoga.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll access roads will be done as long as they are below 10 kilometers except for Tubu-Gumare which is beyond 10 kilometers,\u201d he said. Mr Molale however said that he would make a special request for Tubu road to be included in the Gumare-Mohembo road package or rather it could be considered under the Constituency Community Project fund. Regarding the 34km stretch of Nokaneng-Gumare road, Mr Molale said that the issue was before the courts.<\/p>\n
