Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Batswana have been advised to explore their talents and skills in order to make a living.<\/b><\/p>\n

Assistant Minister of Youth, Gender, Sports and Culture, Buti Billy said during the seventh edition of Boteti Cultural Festival at Leupane pan near Mokobaxane.<\/p>\n

Billy said Botswana\u2019s reliance on exports remained a challenge as most of the country\u2019s revenues were injected outside borders.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith this in mind, let us be challenged to process enough goods to sustain ourselves and even other countries, thereby promoting our brand #pusha BW.<\/p>\n

Government, he said, continued to take keen interest in ensuring that the communities were empowered, both socially and economically to maintain sustainable livelihoods.<\/p>\n

Billy said Botswana was home to many rich cultures, and was happy to find the communities of Boteti who loved their culture and had devoted their time and efforts to develop it.<\/p>\n

He noted that similar international populations had used cultural heritage to improve sustainable livelihoods resulting in socio-economic empowerment.<\/p>\n

The assistant minister also noted that remote area communities encompassed several ethnic groups with diverse cultural heritages.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe today we will experience the best of Boteti music, food, dance, attire, rituals and other ceremonies such as wedding celebrations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Government, he said, with no doubt, has championed cultural development to preserve the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the nation for economic development, more especially among the youth.<\/p>\n

He stated that President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi had launched National Arts Council of Botswana recently, which would unearth immense cultural opportunities that the communities of Boteti would like to develop, promote and market within Botswana and beyond.<\/p>\n

Boteti communities, he said had served as an inspiration for many other tribes in the country to awaken to the importance of one\u2019s culture and language.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince then, you have provided documentation that encouraged the nation to value unity in diversity, value of culture in nation-building, economic development and quality education,\u201d said Billy.<\/p>\n

The theme of the event, Ngwao Sesigo Sa Rona, he said, complimented the importance of culture, stemming from the family unit to the community to the nation, as the building blocks of true nation-building. The assistant minister pointed that it was an invitation theme to witness culture from Makalamabedi to Mmeya.<\/p>\n

He said his ministry was fully supportive of the organisers\u2019 efforts because they were in line with government\u2019s principles of democracy, dignity for all and ensuring that all resources were nurtured to the benefit of various communities.<\/p>\n

Botswana is a signatory to many human rights instruments that encourage cultural diversity as a cornerstone to democracy and equality, he said.<\/p>\n
