Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Botswana\u2019s democratic dispensation is symbolic of good governance, political stability and the rule of law which the country is renowned of since post colonialism, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has said.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking during a courtesy call by Secretary General of the International Institute on Democracy and Electoral Assistance, (International IDEA) Dr Kevin Casas-Zamora, he said Botswana was determined to uphold the reputation of being a beacon and example of hope, stability, peace and tranquility.<\/p>\n

He said of particular note was that Botswana was globally renowned as a champion of democracy and good governance something which the country pride itself on.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is worth noting that a lot were doubtful of the country\u2019s democratic capabilities during attainment of independence, nonetheless the commitment to respect the rule of law and abide by the constitution made it possible for the country to attain high ratings for indicators such as good governance and political stability,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

President Masisi said the government was more resolute and focused with smart spending on increasing leads to grow and nurture the country\u2019s democratic dispensation.<\/p>\n

Government, he said, would strive to safeguard Botswana\u2019s positive image and reputation as a country that is committed to democratic values and sustainable development.<\/p>\n

Dr Casas-Zamora hailed the country\u2019s leadership for striving to have Batswana fielded in strategic leadership positions in international organisations, a move which he said would position Botswana as a respected and influential player in global affairs.<\/p>\n

He further applauded Botswana for being an active member of the international IDEA organisation since joining in 1997.<\/p>\n

\u201cBotswana\u2019s active participation in the International IDEA emphasises the country\u2019s commitment to improving democratic governance,\u201d he said. International IDEA is an intergovernmental organisation with an explicit mandate to support sustainable democracy worldwide.<\/p>\n
