Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Dubbed \u2018A haven and paradise to Gobojango Primary School\u2019 the newly refurbished mini library is intended to help the school to continue positing excellent results, a character it has earned over the past 10 years, according to school head, Ms Florah Sebudubudu.<\/b><\/p>\n

With 52 pre-school and 428 primary school children, the school has been occupying the top 10 bracket in Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) among the 31 schools in the Bobirwa region.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have always been above the 40 and 76 per cent of the national set targets for AB and ABC pass rates,\u201d said Ms Sebudubudu, who also appealed for the school to be adopted.<\/p>\n

She said although they had ICT infrastructure, it was not sufficient for the whole school, saying the WI-FI router bandwidth was limited in coverage.<\/p>\n

A peek into the refurbished mini library, a placard of joined white papers cuts across the wall bearing \u2018Today a Reader Tomorrow a Leader\u2019 inscribed in all rainbow colours.<\/p>\n

Inside the wall, portraits of former presidents and the current Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi hang on the colourful interior walls.<\/p>\n

A number of gilded trophies sit atop the shelves where a few books of various subjects, magazines such as Kutlwano lie there awaiting those willing to flip a few, if not all pages, and a piled of newspapers folded neatly.<\/p>\n

Charts bearing various teachings are stuck on the pin board.<\/p>\n

There are five coloured tables with three black plastic chairs.<\/p>\n

A black chalk board dominates the interior front wall while at the far corner sits a desk with a desktop computer.<\/p>\n

The mini library is also furnished and stocked up by department of ICT and Media under the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, which has been undertaking community development projects.<\/p>\n

Projects manager, Ms Anastacia Tlhabologang said the initiative was in partial fulfillment of a pillar of human and social development, in quest for prosperity for all.<\/p>\n

The library is said to inculcate the culture of reading as per the department\u2019s claim to gift reading to learners.<\/p>\n

Ms Lenah Bright from ICT and media services said despite advancement in technology, reading and writing would not go extinct as the library would help learners acquire knowledge that would nourish their confidence.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are donating reading… books will help kids focus and take them off streets,\u201d she said and also requested for computers to help teacher research.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the ICT and media department, as part of their community service, has undertaken projects such as Artesia Park at Artesia JSS, a library at Kedia Primary School, Modipane garden at the main kgotla, donation of toiletries and clothing at SOS, among others.<\/p>\n
