Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Botswana Cycling Association (BCA) will partner with Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) and Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund for the National Road Championships to be held at Botswana Police College in Otse on Sunday.<\/b><\/p>\n

The MVA Fund partnership is aimed at raising awareness on road safety.<\/p>\n

In an interview, BCA secretary general, Game Mompe said cyclists were part of a group of vulnerable road users targeted by MVA Fund to raise awareness on improving safe mobility on the roads.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are happy to partner with MVA Fund in this respect as it benefits us and MVA to use our platform to create awareness on road safety,\u201d Mompe said.<\/p>\n

She noted that the partnership with MVA Fund was for a year and subject to review.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are optimistic that the partnership will yield positive results and continue in the future,\u201d she said, adding that MVA Fund was also a sponsor.<\/p>\n

She also indicated that WUC and ER24hrs were also on board as sponsors and \u2018we are grateful to all the sponsors for coming on board to make the National Road Championships a success.\u2019<\/p>\n

The 2023 Road Nationals are expected to attract a pool of competitive riders across various BCA club affiliates, with defending champions expected to fight hard to retain their titles.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe last championships were just after the COVID-19 pandemic and most riders were inactive for a while, leading to less numbers and the competition was not at its best,\u201d Mompe further noted.<\/p>\n

She also said this year\u2019s National Road Championships would have a slight improvement on prizes, expressing hope that such increase the competitiveness of the riders.<\/p>\n

The prize money for the 60km Youth Male and Female category stands at P1 000, P800 and P700 for positions one to three respectively; while in the 90km Junior Male and Female category the prize money is set at P1 500, P1 200 and P1 000 respectively for positions one to three.<\/p>\n

The 90km Female and Male Under23, Elite, Vets, Masters and Grand Masters will get P1 500, P1 200 and P1 000 for positions one to three respectively.<\/p>\n

The 140km male Elite, Under23 and Vets categories prize stand at P3 000 for position one and position two is P2 500 while position three gets P2 000.<\/p>\n

Registration for the Championships is ongoing at www.protime.co.bw with categories of Elite, Juniors, Under23, Vets, Masters and Grand Masters set at P250 and Youth while the 60km ride is set at P150 and P200 respectively.<\/p>\n

The Junior Male and Female as well as the Under23, Elite, Vets, Masters and Grand Masters will all compete on the 90km distance.<\/p>\n

The ultimate 140-kilometre distance, which is the most contested distance comprises Under23, Elite and Vets Males categories.<\/p>\n
