Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Government is planning to build a new hospital in Mogoditshane at a cost of about P30 million.<\/b><\/p>\n

Mogoditshane\/Thamaga council chairperson, Mr Ofentse Mafoko revealed this when officially opening the council\u2019s second full session recently.<\/p>\n

Mr Mafoko explained that the project would be funded under the two-year Transitional National Development Plan.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn urgent application has since been made by the District Health Management Team (DHMT) to the landboard and a plot at Diremogolo has been tentatively allocated,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Further, he told councillors that the district was expecting new improvements at other health facilities such as Metsimotlhabe clinic.<\/p>\n

He said Thamaga Primary Hospital was scheduled for major maintenance while other facilities in the catchment area such as Kubung clinic would get a facelift. All the works, he said, would commence this financial year.<\/p>\n

On other issues, Mr Mafoko told councillors that there was diarrhoea outbreak at Mogoditshane Senior Secondary School which had affected more than 20 learners.<\/p>\n

However, he stated that all the learners had tested negative for cholera since there was a cholera outbreak in neighbouring countries. Mr Mafoko said precautionary measures had since been taken and the affected learners were isolated.<\/p>\n

He also appraised councillors on issues surrounding the elevation of the sub-district to a full fledged district. He said he conducted consultative kgotla meetings in the district recently and one of the issues residents raised was the development of the council logo, slogan and name.<\/p>\n

He said the community suggested that the naming of the district and logo should be neutral and consider all villages that fell under the new district.<\/p>\n

As such, he said, they suggested that the name be changed to Kweneng East or Kweneng South East or Metsimotlhabe, named after the Metsimotlhaba River.<\/p>\n

In addition, he said, the community suggested that the council logo should have a cultural heritage or totem while others suggested that natural physical features found in the area be used instead,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
