Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Pudulogong Rehabilitation Centre in Mochudi has recently received 20 cane, a donation from a good Samaritan, Mr Tabaisana Kitsi.<\/b><\/p>\n

Handing over the donation, Mr Kitsi, a police officer by profession, said he was compelled to give back to the society after realising that a lot of virtually impaired people were involved in road accidents because they struggled to traverse the streets and pathways.<\/p>\n

He therefore encouraged community members to be compassionate and show love to the virtually impaired people on daily basis.<\/p>\n

\u201cA cane allows a virtually impaired child to four major developmental areas that are impacted the most during the course of their disability. It is a developmental tool that is important to the neuron development of a person, from sensory, physical, social and emotional development,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He also urged the community to show love to them and be their eyes in all the facets of life because they did not choose to be blind, adding that some had seen the worst in their lives.<\/p>\n

He added that most of the disabled persons were molested, hence it was important that the society became their voice in such incidents.<\/p>\n

For his part, Bakgatla deputy paramount chief, Kgosi Bana Sekai encouraged Bakgatla to help the virtually impaired people because they faced a lot of difficulty in doing their normal activities.<\/p>\n

He said the donated cane sticks would ease the movement of such people thus avoiding depending on others whenever they had to take trips.<\/p>\n

\u201cThink of the cane as an extension of your arm to reach out to things on the ground and in front of you. It helps you find obstructions and get around them safely. We really are thankful to Mr Kitsi for being compassionate to our children,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He also encouraged Pudulogong learners to work hard so that they joined government departments to unleash their skills they acquired from the school.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou should be very confident and draw inspirations from people like the late South African singer and advocate Steve Kekana who made it despite their visual impairment. Be proud of your disability because you were born in a special way,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Pudulogong centre board chairperson, Mr George Mogome thanked Mr Kitsi for the donation to the centre, which said was a non-profit organisation and was battling financial constraints as they sometimes failed to provide for learners.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe cane sticks will come handy and would continue to transform the lives of those that have lost their confidence due to disability which limits their potential to some extent,\u201d Mr Mogome said.<\/p>\n
