Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>The construction of Tlokweng internal roads is a testimony to government\u2019s commitment to investing in infrastructure development and creating an enabling environment for commerce and industry as well as stimulating the economy.<\/b><\/p>\n

Officiating at the ground breaking ceremony of the roads infrastructure, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Sethabelo Modukanele said the project was marked an important milestone in government\u2019s commitment to bringing services closer to people.<\/p>\n

He said it was also a broader part of the National Decentralisation Programme to achieve ease of access to development and decision making.<\/p>\n

\u201cAligned with the ministry\u2019s five-year strategy and transformation pillar of providing effective and efficient local services and infrastructure, this project is bound to equally support our aspirations as a nation, of building resilient, inclusive and sustainable economies,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Modukanele said government was cognisant of the fact that infrastructure determined the size and flow of investment.<\/p>\n

He said given Tlokweng\u2019s close proximity to Gaborone City the project presented great opportunity for investment.<\/p>\n

He said in expanding the road network, government wanted to ensure efficient movement of people and goods, hence the decision to use the constituency community programme for road projects. Mr Modukanele said the construction of internal roads would allow Tlokweng community access to reliable amenities needed to drive the villages economy and position it as a viable engine of economic growth.<\/p>\n

The Tlokweng District Council chairperson, Mr Collen Mochotlhi, said the project entailed the construction of a 25 kilometres bitumen road network with storm water drainage and solar street lighting in Maratanang, Letlapeng, Lenganeng and Metlhabeng wards.<\/p>\n

Asphalt Botswana had been engaged to build the road network over a period of two years, and thus the project was anticipated to be completed by June 2025, he said.<\/p>\n
