Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Botswana national team coach Mogomotsi Mpote has been left infuriated by the comments made by Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos who said he doesn\u2019t want to play against nations like the Zebras before the Africa Cup of Nations finals.<\/b><\/p>\n

Broos, when he was unveiled by SAFA in May 2021, made it clear that he was not interested in playing against nations such as Botswana and Lesotho because they will not give him the competitive edge he will be looking for.<\/p>\n

He even sometime last year declined to play a friendly match against Lesotho, who were in the country to play Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers since they have home venues banned by CAF.<\/p>\n

However, this has not gone down well to Mpote, who is leading Botswana in the COSAFA Cup, where they beat Eswatini 1-0 in their opener on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are Botswana and Botswana are known to be peaceful people, whether he rubbishes us or does whatever, let him talk,\u201d Mpote said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think South Africa employed him to take this team to the World Cup, he failed, didn\u2019t he? To qualify and win the AFCON, isn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will always respect South Africa as a country and Bafana Bafana as a national team. We will always respect that, [but] let\u2019s see if he [Broos] will win the AFCON, if he will win the World Cup.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s wait and see. For us we don\u2019t have a problem with talking like that to Batswana because Botswana and South Africans are sisters and brothers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Banyana\u2019s World Cup squad also questioned playing against Botswana in the FIFA World Cup warm-up match last Sunday, as they felt they deserve better and were fighting also for bonus issues.<\/p>\n

Instead, SAFA hastily-assembled a makeshift team made up of players from the SASOL and Hollywood Bets leagues to play the friendly and lost 5-0.<\/p>\n

Botswana will meet Bafana\u2019s makeshift squad in the second Group A match in the COSAFA Cup at King Zwelithini Stadium today (15:00), with Mpote coming up against a familiar face in Morena Ramorebodi.<\/p>\n

The latter was appointed by SAFA since Helman Mkhalele, who is Broos\u2019 assistant coach, doesn\u2019t have the right coaching qualifications.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe always talks to me,\u201d said Mpote of Ramorebodi, who is in charge of Botswana champions Jwaneng Galaxy.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I find that there is one player I want from Morena and I want him to help him in some aspect, I just call and tell him. I wish him luck to meet me on Saturday, but I respect him as a coach.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mpote explained why Ramorebodi is excelling in Botswana, having also guided Galaxy to the CAF Champions League group stages last year for the first time in the club\u2019s history.<\/p>\n

\u201cMorena is coaching a company team and resources are enough for him to work. He has a CAF A license, doesn\u2019t he? He\u2019s a good coach to help our football side and help the boys whom I will be using.\u201d<\/p>\n
