Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Proper housing gives teachers a sense of belonging and support as well as motivates them, hence government\u2019s push for teacher accommodation, local government and rural development assistant minister Mr Mabuse Pule, said recently.<\/b><\/p>\n

He was speaking at the ground breaking ceremony of Oodi package B project, whereby government will build 26 houses for teachers in the village.<\/p>\n

The over P26 Million project formed part of a comprehensive programme for improvement of primary education services as per the revised national policy on education, he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the key aspects of this policy is the provision of new and additional facilities and the construction of new school staff housing aligns perfectly with this vision,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Regarding the tender for the project, Mr Pule said it had been successfully unbundled into two packages, with Package A focusing on the school facilities which had already begun, and package B on construction of teachers\u2019 houses.<\/p>\n

He added the tender was awarded to Titomax holdings Pty Ltd, who were expected to have completed the project within12 months. Speaking at the same event, Kgatleng District Council Chairman, Mr Daniel Molokwe said construction of the facilities would ensure that the village of Oodi accommodated a growing demand for education.<\/p>\n

He said the housing project had only been prioritised for teachers owing to serious shortage of accommodation for them.<\/p>\n

For her part Titomax Holdings Director, Ms Angela Setumo thanked Kgatleng District council for giving women the opportunity to work in a male dominated space.<\/p>\n

She said they were would ensure they completed the project before the expected date of July 22 next year. SMs Setumo assured everyone that they would be hiring personnel from the village, especially the youth. She expressed hope that Oodi residents would work well with them.<\/p>\n
