Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>The new Werda\/Mmathethe road earmarked for construction this financial year, will not only shorten distance between Gaborone and Tsabong, but will also offload traffic from Tsabong\/Sekoma road, and thus improve the efficiency of Trans Kalahari Highway.<\/b><\/p>\n

Transport policy and planning director and chairperson of the Trans Kalahari Corridor (TKC) management committee in, Mr Orapeleng Mosigi said this in a recent interview.<\/p>\n

He said completion of the feeder road would see some traffic divert off the Trans Kalahari Highway, ensuring timely transportation of goods and services.<\/p>\n

Mr Mosigi said farms along the Borolong area would also benefit as there now would exist a reliable access road to markets.<\/p>\n

For his part, Tsabong Multispecies Abattoir Project Engineer Mr Ofentse Kgaogano said government had set aside P8.5 billion for road infrastructure in the next two financial years.<\/p>\n

The money would be used for construction of new roads, refurbishment of some existing ones and upgrading of others, he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Kgaogano added that Tsabong Multi Species Abattoir, currently under construction, was strategically positioned along the road and benefit from it.<\/p>\n

The proposed road will reduce the distance between Gaborone and Tsabong by about 230km.<\/p>\n

The TKC is a tripartite trans boundary corridor management institution established with political and economic vision to contribute towards deeper regional integration programmes of Southern African Development Community, Southern African Customs Union and New Partnerships for Africa\u2019s Development.<\/p>\n

The road network that it oversees spans approximately 1900 kilometers, from Pretoria in South Africa, via Botswana enroute to Namibia\u2019s Walvis Bay.<\/p>\n
