Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Communities in the Okavango District have been encouraged to strive for clean villages. that are not an eyesore to tourists and investors.<\/b><\/p>\n

The call was made by the Okavango District Council (ODC) chairman Mr Gaopalelwe Ronald when re-launching the village clean-up competitions at Etsha 6 on August 2.<\/p>\n

The district is reportedlly dealing with challenges of littering and mismanagement of waste.<\/p>\n

Mr Ronald clean-up competitions would motivate the residents to aim for the top spot while promoting cleanliness across the district.<\/p>\n

The chairman said hygiene start with individuals, therefore urged parents to teach their children the importance of a clean environment..<\/p>\n

ODC Acting Council Secretary Ms Iris Sitaelo said the competitions would have four categories of best overall clean village, category of the best in small village, middle village and big villages, the best school as well as best exhibitors in recyclable, reduce and re-use products.<\/p>\n

In his welcome remarks, Etsha 6 Kgosi Mwakaupi Seemeko expressed delight for the re-launch of the clean-up competitions.<\/p>\n

Kgosi Seemeko said that the competitions would inspire and bring positive change in the their villages.<\/p>\n

Councillor for Etsha 6 Mr Tuyano Kangura said the competitions were a good a step in achieving a clean environment.<\/p>\n

He however said that the council should ensure waste was collected on time.<\/p>\n
