Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>A group of ambitious young people from Lobatse have joined forces to establish an online radio station which will focus primarily on airing issues about the town.<\/b><\/p>\n

Thirty-year-old Vincent Lekoba, popularly known as DJ Vic, who came up with the idea for the project, revealed this week that Lobatse Online Radio would be launched tomorrow at Cumberland Hotel, where they would unveil their shows to the public.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will broadcast five shows every week from Tuesday to Saturday.<\/p>\n

Each show will have its day for a duration of about 45 minutes to one hour,\u201d he said in an interview.<\/p>\n

He stated that their shows were Voice Up which would air on Tuesdays, Kasi 2 Kasi Top 10 (Wednesdays), Bumpy Cruise (Thursdays), Tsa Langane (Fridays), and Chillas Ya Kasi (Saturdays).<\/p>\n

Voice Up, he said, would focus on broad societal issues affecting the people of Lobatse.<\/p>\n

The show will be presented by youth activist Mpheme Mmolai.<\/p>\n

Lekoba added that Kasi 2 Kasi Top 10 would on the other hand be a weekly music show focusing mainly on artistes from Lobatse.<\/p>\n

He said it would be presented by himself.<\/p>\n

He further said that the Bumpy Cruise, to be presented by himself and Catherine Khali known as MC Sponkie, would focus on everyday struggles affecting young people in Lobatse.<\/p>\n

Tsa Langane, to be presented by Edwin \u2018Nick\u2019 Leswape will focus on historical issues and Lobatse brewed music, while Chillas Ya Kasi by Brighton \u2018Socks\u2019 Ncube will focus on trending entertainment issues in the town.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe idea to establish Lobatse Online Radio started in 2020.<\/p>\n

It came from myself and my business partner, Clement Kedikaetswe who is also from this town.<\/p>\n

We developed the idea because we wanted to establish a platform which would give young people in Lobatse an opportunity to showcase their talent.<\/p>\n

We have many talented young people in this town,\u201d said Lekoba, who had stints as resident DJ with RB2, Yarona FM, and Duma FM.<\/p>\n

Lekoba also said they were motivated by the fact that the first radio station, Radio Botswana in this country was stationed in Lobatse before it relocated to Gaborone.<\/p>\n

He said preparations had been ongoing for two years for the radio station to start operating.<\/p>\n

He said the launch would take place from 12pm-5pm tomorrow.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will get entertainment from young people in Lobatse.<\/p>\n

We will also record and broadcast our shows on the day of the launch.<\/p>\n

We have five shows, which will be presented by young people who want to grow with our radio station,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Lekoba said the project was self-sponsored and operated on shoe-string budget, after they failed to get financial sponsorship.<\/p>\n

He said they currently did not have a studio or office.<\/p>\n

He therefore said their radio would initially operate as a mobile radio station, recording its programmes in different places around town.<\/p>\n

He said the radio would broadcast on Facebook, Twitter and You Tube.<\/p>\n

Lekoba further said they would establish a website in future.<\/p>\n
