Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>The P2.5 billion Kanye sanitation project, which is expected to finish next month, is at about 95 per cent complete.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking at the project site visit recently, the Minister of Lands and Water Affairs, Dr Kefentse Mzwinila, called for the conclusion of all projects meant to provide water supply and sanitation services to the people within time and on budget.<\/p>\n

He said all projects meant for providing water and sanitation services must be done on time and must be done to the best quality to ensure their longevity.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the visit, he said, was to assess progress and quality in the intervention project aimed at addressing water and sanitation challenges in Kanye.<\/p>\n

During an inspection visit to the facilities, he stressed the importance of working closely with the community, adding that proper consultations and cooperation with residents would make their work easy and smooth.<\/p>\n

After the tour, Dr Mzwinila gave insights into the Water system rehabilitation project that was anticipated to start in the near future, saying government would soon award the works\u2019 tender.<\/p>\n

He said the project would be done in two phases and was expected to start at areas where there was no water and then spread to the rest of the village.<\/p>\n

Dr Mzwinila applauded the contractor on the progress at the waste water treatment plant, which he believed was ready and could kick-start the early beneficiation programme.<\/p>\n

He urged the contractor to give back to the community so as to leave a lasting legacy in the village.<\/p>\n

In his presentation, project engineer of Estate Construction Mr Victor Kubalasa, reported that the project was on course to be completed before end of the year.<\/p>\n

He explained that the project involved construction of sewer reticulation over the entire village, pump stations, waste water treatment plant, water supply to the treatment plant, access roads to the treatment plant and pump stations.<\/p>\n

Mr Kubalasa said the project, which was to be completed by April, would now be completed next month due to the effects of COVID-19 and the bottom rock, which impacted planned procurements.<\/p>\n

Member of Parliament for Kanye South, Dr Lemogang Kwape, thanked the minister for developments in Kanye, noting that residents\u2019 lives would improve.<\/p>\n

Kanye North Member of Parliament, Mr Thapelo Letsholo. commended the Ministry of Lands and Water Affairs for awarding the project to a citizen-owned company, saying that it created employment for young Batswana and that it would also inspire other youths to venture into business.<\/p>\n
