Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Young people have been reminded that they still hold the key to an HIV-free future. HIV\/AIDS and sexual health activist, Ms Boikobo Kenosi has pointed out that through their energy, enthusiasm and determination, the youth had it in their power to create a world where HIV is a historical footnote. <\/b><\/p>\n

In an interview with BOPA, Ms Kenosi observed that though significant progress has been made in raising awareness and reducing stigma around HIV, there was \u201cstill room for improvement\u201d.<\/p>\n

She said education and awareness had been thoroughly done, hence Botswana has attained the 98-98-95 target, saying it was now up to the youth to change their mind-set towards HIV\/AIDS so that Botswana could attain the vision 2030.<\/p>\n

She therefore called on the youth and every Motswana to introspect, change their mindset towards HIV, saying in that way there would be no new infections. She said it was important that people understand that being HIV-positive was a medical condition and not a reflection of one\u2019s character or behaviour.<\/p>\n

Ms Kenosi said it was important that young people be targeted with appropriate education that includes information about HIV\/AIDS saying that could help create a more informed and responsible generation.<\/p>\n

She also emphasised the importance of parents talking to their children about sex, safe sex practices, consent and respect for all individuals saying that could reduce new infections.<\/p>\n

She said changing mindset around HIV\/AIDS requires a multi-faceted approach that involves education, communication, policy changes and commitment.<\/p>\n

She said for the fact that HIV affects all people from all walks of life, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, age, or socio economic status, it was important that all work together to eliminate it.<\/p>\n
