Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>It is vital to come up with strategies that will ensure that the environment is kept clean at all times.<\/b><\/p>\n

This was said by the Member of Parliament for Kanye North, Mr Thapelo Letsholo during a collaborative litter-picking campaign organised by Kanye Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) College of Nursing, District Health Management Team, tribal leadership and Kanye District Council on Friday.<\/p>\n

Mr Letsholo thanked all those who took part in the campaign to keep their environment clean in order to promote good health.<\/p>\n

He further noted that the campaign also brought the residents together.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe this is the beginning and we will continue with this great initiative,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

For her part, Mohumagadi Masetsibi Gaseitsewe highlighted that the campaign was what Bangwaketse needed to live in a healthy environment.<\/p>\n

She explained that the dirty environment led to different illnesses and tarnished the image of the village\u2019s beautiful environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet us lead by example and take care of our environment, for us and the generations to come,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Mohumagadi Mmasetsibi further pointed out that the initiative was the beginning of the bigger picture of what could be achieved, if the community was united and collaboratively addressed other pressing issues such as crime, GBV and unemployment.<\/p>\n

She also urged the community to engage her in various initiatives that could better the lives of the community.<\/p>\n

Kanye District Council deputy secretary (technical), Mr Joseph Banyatsang highlighted that they were mandated to lead in keeping the environment clean.<\/p>\n

However, he said due to limited budget they could not succeed working alone, hence they engaged different partners to assist.<\/p>\n

\u201cBatswana should understand that they could use litter to make an income, litter for cash,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He urged residents to play their part in keeping the environment clean, noting that they should report those who dump litter illegally.<\/p>\n

Kanye SDA College of Nursing principal, Dr Lillian Segwagwe thanked campaign participants, noting that a clean environment was vital for good health.<\/p>\n

She said the environment was like human bodies, hence the need to always keep it clean.<\/p>\n

\u201cDirty environment leads to different illnesses.<\/p>\n

We should all take it upon ourselves to keep it clean at all times,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Dr Segwagwe also advised Kanye District Council to come up with initiatives that would motivate the community to keep the environment clean, such as clean wards competitions.<\/p>\n

She assured the community that they would continue engaging them in such initiatives to keep the environment clean.<\/p>\n
