Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse has been commended for his unwavering support directed at making a difference in the lives of the disadvantaged.<\/b><\/p>\n

Receiving two wheel chairs and blankets from the minister recently Mr Simisani Boy and Ms Taolo Tebelelo of Tshikhinyega ward in Serowe expressed gratitude, saying the wheel chair would relieve their family members the burden of pushing them everywhere they wanted to go.<\/p>\n

The two, who are living with disability, hailed the Mr Autlwetse for continuing to change lives of many disadvantaged people in Serowe.<\/p>\n

When handing over the gifts to the two, Mr Autlwetse said this was his second round of donations, having donated full school uniform to all primary school learners in Serowe North constituency.<\/p>\n

Mr Autlwetse highlighted that the donation was made possible by the World Group of Companies, which had partnered with him.<\/p>\n

He said after winning elections in 2014, he decided to do something to thank his constituents and the World Group of Companies came on board to contribute to the initiative.<\/p>\n

Mr Autlwetse said he chose to assist the two because people with disabilities were often forgotten.<\/p>\n

\u201cGiving a wheel chair to someone in need is to show them the existence of God in their life. There is need to support government to improve the welfare of our community.\u201d<\/p>\n

When giving vote of thanks, a representative, from District Health Management Team (DHMT), Ms Motswamasimo Rankgomo applauded the minister for the donations, saying the wheel chairs would not only enable recipients to attain mobility and independence, but would also improve their quality of life.<\/p>\n

She said the donation came at the right time as the ministry had serious shortage of wheel chairs, for both adults and children.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a list of disabled persons waiting for different assistive devices, which the department might have taken a long time to assist. But through such donations, a large portion of that list will be covered.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Rankgomo said a number of people with mobility challenges needed wheelchair replacement, hence she appealed to the private sector and other charitable organisations to assist.<\/p>\n
