Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>The Vice President Slumber Tsogwane is on a tour of his constituency to update the residents on issues of national interest as well as about matters from the last Parliament session.<\/b><\/p>\n

During a kgotla meeting in Kedia on Friday, Mr Tsogwane indicated that 16 bills were passed during the last Parliament session as a move to improve the livelihoods of Batswana.<\/p>\n

Some of the bills that were passed included Bill No 3 of 2023 of the electoral act, wildlife conservation and national parks, arms and ammunition bill No 5, military and veterans bill among others, adding that Homosexuality amaendement bill was not passed.<\/p>\n

When commenting one of the residents Mr Ontiile Simane proposed that defilement convicts should be sentenced to life imprisonment.<\/p>\n

Another resident Mr Obonye Lobang expressed grave concern that murder suspects were released on bail despite being a threat to the society.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile another resident proposed that defilement convicts should be rendered impotent, a sentiment shared by majority of the residents.<\/p>\n

The residents also supported the current system of electing a President. They also suggested that people with dual citizenship should not be allowed to join the local discipline forces.<\/p>\n

Regarding other issues, Mr Tsogwane mentioned that construction of the Mokoboxane-Kedia-Xhumo road was neccessary to provide easy accessto facilities for Kedia residents.<\/p>\n

He promised to continue engaging the Minister of Communications and Transport regarding to at least consider spot-patching.<\/p>\n

He was responding to VDC Chairperson, Mr Maikutlo Kenosi who expressed concerns about the poor state of the road. Mr Tsogwane applauded President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi for the successful negotiations between Botswana and De Beers.<\/p>\n

Concerning human-wildlife conflict, Mr Tsogwane said government planned to devise strategies to address the issue and not to rely on compensation funds.<\/p>\n
