Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Lasty Kedisa of Boro is the 2023 Nkashi Classic champion in the male grand canoe race. The 25-year-old walked away with P40 000 in prize money.<\/b><\/p>\n

Kedisa emerged the champion after trying twice in 2018 and 2022 but scooping position two in both occasions.<\/p>\n

He said the prize increase motivated him to do better and he trained well and ate healthy prior to the race.<\/p>\n

The Boro youngster said he was introduced to poling at around six years.<\/p>\n

Keikatsemang Gorewang, 56, also of Boro took position two in the female veterans\u2019 category.<\/p>\n

Gorewang said she was a poler long before the arrival of international tourists as they used canoes during fishing missions.<\/p>\n

Other categories included double race, male veteran\u2019s category and the women and men category.<\/p>\n

Champions in other categories were awarded P10 000 each while positions two and three were awarded P5 000 and P2 000 respectively.<\/p>\n

Nkashi Classic is an annual canoe race organised by Wild Bird Trust in association with the National Geographic and DeBeers aimed at creating awareness of the importance of the Okavango River system through canoe or mokoro race.<\/p>\n

The race has been held since 2018 and participants came from villages around the Okavango Delta such as Seronga, Jao, Boro and Etsha 13.<\/p>\n
